This project describes the process of creating a design inspired by the concept of empathy. Yeşiltepe shantytown, where the movie named “Otobüs Yolcuları” by Ertem Göreç, took place, was referenced.
The chosen area will provide the best perception of the development of the neighborhood of Yeşiltepe. What If, the culture of slum cities has not lost and sustained with articulated blocks to existing buildings?
The neighborhood in the movie is formed as a result of people’s intervention in the topography. The boundaries of slums become the boundaries of the streets. These streets become a common meeting place because of the binding elements of citizenship and kinship relations. Therefore, a connection between people and topography occurs.
A design that supports the existing structures and grows articulated is considered. This structure prevents the intervention to the existing spaces of the area. The design offers an alternative living space against future urbanization and conserves the unique culture of the neighborhood.
It is thought that the developing housing supported by existing structures will support public spaces and ensure the continuity of green spaces.
