“Digital citizenship” is the ability to participate in society online and, we define ‘‘digital citizens’’ as those who use the Internet regularly and effectively.
internet safety is an important situation for digital citizens and it is about protecting your online privacy is a fundamental part of staying safe on the Internet. A big part of this is being able to tell when someone else’s behaviour is inappropriate and taking the necessary action to stop it. For instance, while someone you interact with online might seem nice at first, it’s important to be wary at all times and trust your instincts: If something just doesn’t feel right, pull back from the situation.
The internet offers access to a wealth of ideas, resources, learning opportunities and services for the digital citizen. The educational value is demonstrated when those users without access to traditional libraries can perform online research, or when those users with disabilities are able to fully engage in the benefits of the online environment thanks to technology in our hands. But what if this much accessibility falls into the wrong hands? In this case, the mind that owns it rather than what these hands have is the real question.
DIGITAL SOCIALIZATION
One of the most important concepts for a digital citizen is social media. It mimics real-world interactions in many ways. It is easy for people to show and express themselves or advertise their work on these platforms. But, at the same time, it is also easy for people to show themselves differently or act without thinking about the consequences. Social media removes the boundaries of socialization, but at the same time, it leads to many problems such as cyberbullying.
In line with this information, it is possible to say that the limits of people’s lives are decreasing day by day thanks to the digital world and that they are carrying their lives in the real world to the digital world. Important factors such as education, work and social life are beginning to move into this world. And, yes, it reduces the negative effects like as in the pandemic process, which we are in, but it also brings great destruction in concepts like social media. These developments that we are experiencing bring to minds this question:
In the future, will the digital world cross the line of reality and invade our lives?
Technology, which makes our lives easier and reduces our limits to the level of negligence, is not less than a factor that threatens the human self. It is harder than ever to give importance to ethical values in our platforms. The digital world is not an area we can know as much as the real world… Yet.
