Utopias have expressed many social problems in their own way and have shown a way to solve them. These problems have undergone major changes with events between periods. For this reason, the way they express these problems and the issues they criticize have also changed. But when expressing, the form of space and specifying details about settlements has been a common form of expression for each period. But as I mentioned, they have created cities in different forms, being influenced by different events.

In utopias, the city is important because it is the place where ideal life, ideal society, ideal management takes place. Utopias needed spatial phenomena to make their messages more understandable by attracting the reader’s attention. Because the reflections of ideal society on space contain information about utopia.

The Middle Ages

Cities were generally abstracted from the external environment for protection and had a regular and uniform architecture to ensure equality. Common areas are numerous, as common ownership is given importance.

19. CENTURY

They moved away from the idea of a regular city.

20. CENTURY

Feminist, ecological, ecological-technological utopias have occured. The bond of design and Utopia has increased, with architects and planners trying to realize good life in buildings, squares and streets. Scientific and technical developments, wars, environmental problems and social dynamics have influenced utopia. The concept of dystopia has emerged.

Ecological urban utopias in the 20. Century

Environmental issues have led people to ecological utopias. Ecological utopia does not reject technology, but it is cautious. It is preferred to be less harmful or not harmful at all.Ecological utopias are not just fictitious concepts that are theoretically critical, and they are trying to be implemented to solve problems.
