Sometimes all we want to do is to follow our heart, and that is what we’re actually supposed to do. We are humans with immense talent and have the potential to do just about everything. And among those opportunities, is freelancing, created by mankind… for mankind.

The Oxford dictionary defines Freelance as “Self-employed and hired to work for different companies on particular assignments.” As the definition suggests, organisations hire people for variety of work — dancing, writing, web designing, auditing, counselling — as needed. It may involve monetary gains, but for the freelancers, work satisfaction is guaranteed. Why? Because they chose to follow their passion.

My freelance workspace :)

These days, people take up software jobs after graduating and then, get accustomed to their 9-5 working hours. And the job involves a mix of coding, testing and creating presentations among others. Then, there are analysts using their skills and communication to drive the workforce.

Well, why am I stating the obvious? Because these routine tasks pave the way for us to realise the aspects of creativity, we tend to use in those mundane tasks. We subconsciously generate endorphins that make us happy about the tasks that give us euphoria! No, I am not exaggerating! :D

Once we realise what we love to do, we can always use our free time to work on and practice the skills which give us satisfaction. Freelancing, hence, bridges the gap between our work and passion. And there are many options to choose from, depending on your interests.

One of the most popular freelance work is writing. We have the freedom of expression and blessed are those who can pen their trail of thoughts into intricately knit sentences. Thus, giving the readers a whole new spectrum of experiences. Editing copies, adding content to websites, proofreading and translating content are the various options available within freelance writing opportunities.

Another popular one is freelance tutoring. It is for those who love teaching and have the noble thought of imparting the knowledge they gained through the years. Learning is immortal, and there definitely is a teacher in everyone’s life who is their favourite. There is one who made us love particular subjects through their innovative teaching skills, isn’t it?

Next, photography is one of the freelance work options which give us an opportunity to capture beautiful moments in a frame. And the best part is that you don’t even need a pricey DSLR always. You can use a top-end smartphone to capture pictures and then edit to make them presentable. There are many applications available at your service.

Then, marketing and sales are the freelancing options for people good at networking. Although public relations and brand campaigning require having experience in relevant fields, it’s great for people with expertise in presentation skills.

There also are other feasible options for freelancing such as legal advising and counselling. People who have emphatic traits and can connect with others can become good counsellors. And the ones who are great at logical reasoning can be legal advisors.

So, there are a plethora of options for a freelance career. And you are free to create a niche for yourself while the world harnesses the creativity in you!
