I had heard that it is not only the mother that gets pregnant but it is the couple. I always thought “Aww, that is so cute!” Such an emotional and a momentous time for the parents, so of course..

But I did not realize the depth of this — the extent to which my symptoms and habits will get rubbed off onto my husband. I am not kidding, okay let me explain -

The not-yet-pregnant couple : Rahil (the husband) and Ananya (the wife) : Budapest in the May of 2018
  1. Of course, he has put on a few grams (and he is worried!! Until the day I shooed him away for crying over this in front of me who will soon be putting on 12 kgs at the least) — rolling my eyes here. But this happens and is bound to happen. When you live together and start eating more often, your partner gets a bit extra snacking too. It’s okay, he will lose it soon once the baby comes. I mean all those night walks to quiet the baby down will burn out the calories. Right?
  2. Nights filled with vivid dreams! Yes, pregnancy gives you these as well. You have dreams full of people you had long forgotten and strange storylines. It has a logical reasoning behind it, you get more vivid dreams when you wake up during your REM (Rapid eye movement) state and with pregnancy, you do wake up — due to nature’s calls or need to shift the sides to prevent sleeping on your back etc. But my husband has been having them forever and still does!! Now every morning, we wake up and our toothbrush conversations are — you know what I dreamt off?! But contrary to belief, he has more to talk about than I do. Every night, he goes to bed and makes this concoction of all the ongoing themes of his current life — the latest ones get stronger spotlight. Actually even before our pregnancy, I had thought of starting a blog full of his dreams (will do it someday). His dreams are mostly sci-fi, multi-universe where I am a damsel in distress. Yes — Happy Women’s day!
  3. Tiredness — well the most omnipresent feeling during one’s preggy days. And obviously so, when you are making a life, you can get a bit tired with all that you are doing. And so does my hubby. :) Well, to be honest, he is working around like a superman, with so much office work and then the household work, especially on the days that I am low on energy. In his defense, I know there is a lot going on for him, too many project deadlines and deliveries while I am struggling with the one delivery, planned for August! ;)
  4. Adding another one as an after-thought but very very relevant : when you are pregnant, you are asked to eat every 2–3 hours to support the baby in you, stay hydrated (more than ever) and because your baby is pushing down on your bladder, therefore you need to pee frequently. But, as you would have guessed the theme of this conversation by now, my hubby has been living like this since forever. Whenever we went out for shopping, he made sure that I felt like I have a toddler by my side, so we packed water bottles and a few knick-knacks to munch on and of course, this meant we needed to find stores that allowed access to free bathrooms. Having said that we have eaten the McGrills (just like that) because my dear had to clear up his bladder. But now I can relate to him, good thing is not much has changed in our routine, we only need to pack double of the snacks, easy-peasy!
  5. This is my favourite one and that’s why I saved it for the end (just like my quintessential habit of saving the best piece of food for the end!). Rahil (yes, my husband) told me that he was talking to a pregnant teammate and he saw that she had her hand on her tummy (which by the way, friends — is super normal. All you Meghan Markle haters who keep condemning her for touching her bump in every photo of hers! Leave her alone!) and then Rahil realized that even he had his hand on his bump err tummy. Well at this point, I was like Rahil, “Please, leave this one for me”!

Now you know why I say that WE are pregnant, yes it is sweet but at the same time, it is true, Really.
