A Poem

Raised to forgive and forget,
To empathize and sympathize.
My heart is limitless,
Generous and gentle,
Compassionate and considerate.
I can exhaust myself in others,
And discount my own needs,
Foolishly assuming others
will reciprocate.
It is not selfish, but self-compassion that leads me
back to protect
The fragileness of my soul.
