The Rainbow is the Circle

Through the Floor — Trisha Traughber 2019

Barefoot and slapping into
the shimmering
arc that reaches
its colored waters
from sacrifice
to abandonment, I don’t even know
I’m chosing to stop
being
a child and to exist
for others when I slide
curling into this
backflip, into
the unseen
splashing all
the way down
only when I see
my first self
adrift, abandoned, only
when I slip
through the rippled floor
of childhood
do I understand it
was
always
a full circle.

Dedication:

If, due to the wild way our world spins, you are one of the so many people who had to stop being a child way too early, for whatever the reason, wherever your backstory was written, in whatever time and place, whatever scraps and textures cover your past,

This poem is for you,

(and for me).

I wish you peace, love, the full spectrum of your emotions — and freely flowing ink.
