Since a little boy sang “Fly Girl” to me in the first grade in the early 80s, I have been, and always will be a true Hip Hop head. But I’m also a person who keeps my eyes on relationships.
My first marriage was built on such immaturity and cluelessness that I vowed I would never make the same, horrific mistakes again, choosing someone who did not valued me deeply.
I went on a path of self discovery but also studied love, communication, friendship, spirituality, high-level marriages, and now psychology at the master’s level. But I also observe marriages from the outside in.
Of course, being on the outside of someone else’s marriage only gives one a limited perspective of what’s going on and people’s deeper personality complexities. However, over the last decade, I’ve become privy to subconscious clues and behavioral subtleties that make so much sense.
Things from a slight eye shift when a person’s lover is talking to the deep breath one has to take to even be in their lover’s presence are surefire signs of struggle. But then there are also bigger things like how considerate the two are to each other’s feelings and physical proximity behaviors.
