How to Become a Podcaster with Dr. Jürgen Strauss

Podcasting is one of the best ways to build visibility, professional credibility, and sustainable visibility.

As a podcast host, I’ve had hundreds of meaningful conversations with the best entrepreneurs from around the world. Each conversation for me is like a masterclass, where I gain lots of valuable insights and inspiration that I can then share with my audience.

It was a great privilege to be a guest on the Access to Anyone podcast with Michael Roderick to talk about all-things-podcasting — from overcoming your fears to booking potential guests and making the most of those relationships.

Here are some of the takeaways from our conversation.

  • Podcasting is a great way to connect with people from all around the world, build relationships, and learn from them.
  • Technology and automation are very powerful tools in marketing but we shouldn’t use them to abdicate the human experience. Instead, we should use them to make things more efficient and to free up some of our time to build those relationships.
  • Podcasting is a great way to build professional credibility and sustainable visibility by building a deep connection with our dream clients.
  • Consistency and having the right mindset are the keys to sustainable visibility. You have to bring your mindset to a point where you are really driven to share that message and consistently produce content to get it out there.
  • Building relationships is key to a successful podcast.
  • Have systems in place for inviting guests, scheduling, and following up with them after each episode to keep the conversation going and deepen the relationship.
  • Podcasting can be overwhelming, so getting help is quite valuable. Having a checklist of all the things that you need to do can be really helpful.
  • Make sure to let the guest know when their episode is published. Have systems in place that will remind you when it’s time to contact them or to follow up with them in some way.
  • Revisit your old podcast episodes to remind yourself of the things you’ve learned.
  • Just do it! Don’t worry about it falling on deaf ears. Start off by getting clear on who your ideal audience is.
  • Start small. Start with 10 people you know that can add value to your audience and invite them to your show.
  • Podcasting is also a great networking tool. At the end of each episode, you can ask your guest who else they can recommend to be on your show.
  • Keep focusing on quality conversations with your great guests and continue building the relationship by helping them share their episode. By doing so, you are immediately putting the episode not only in front of your audience but also in their community, which helps grow your audience.
  • Identify people that are the right fit for your podcast by creating a bucket list of topics that your podcast covers. You can also create an onboarding form that people can fill out to provide some information about them or schedule a quick get to know you call to help pinpoint some topics that you could talk about.
  • Get over yourself! No one cares if you’re nervous or if you don’t look good on camera. What they care about is the value that you can add to their lives. And if you have a really good message or some knowledge and insights that are worth sharing, then it is your responsibility to get it out to the people it can help.
  • If you want to create a great product, just focus on one person and give that person the most amazing experience ever.
