Daphne Gray-Grant, How to Build a Happier and Healthier Writing Habit

In this episode, our guest is Daphne Gray-Grant. Daphne grew up in the newspaper business. Her parents owned a struggling weekly where she worked from the age of 16, even while completing an honours degree in political science at the University of B.C. Eventually, she left the family business to become a senior editor at a major metropolitan daily — The Vancouver Sun — where she worked for 10 years.

After the birth of her triplet children in 1994, she became a communications consultant, and writing and editing coach. She is the author of 8 1/2 Steps to Writing Faster, Better, and Your Happy First Draft. She has been blogging since 2006 and hosting a YouTube channel since 2017. She strongly believes that the main reason many people can’t write and can’t write quickly is that the school system hasn’t given them the simple tools to do it. Her popular and free weekly newsletter, Power Writing, goes to thousands of readers around the world every Tuesday morning.

In our discussion, Daphne talked to us about:

  • How to build a happier and healthier writing habit by starting small
  • Why it’s important to separate the writing from the editing and also take a break in between these activities
  • The value of asking questions

The world of podcasting is no different. A good podcast isn’t determined by how charming its hosts are, but rather how they connect with their listeners. If you want to grow your podcast audience with content that stands out, knowing how to build a community around your podcast is essential.

Human Connection Event for Awesome People ❣

Connect with people that matter — awesome people carefully selected from our global community!

We’re all busy, and it can be hard to find time for the people we care about. That’s why I created this event — so you could connect with other awesome people that matter. People who I’ve carefully selected from my global community.

This is not a networking event, but rather an opportunity to meet new friends and deepen connections with old ones.

It’s also an opportunity to get out of your head and into your heart, have fun, laugh more than you thought possible (and if you’re like me, cry too), learn something new about yourself or someone else…or just sit back and enjoy the ride!

As a result of our last events:

  • New connections were forged between awesome people
  • Many podcast guest appearances and new guests for podcasters resulted
  • New business was done as a result of the connections
  • JV opportunities were initiated

Let’s get more of this happening! I can’t wait to see what we’ll create at this next event together.
