A South Bend Open WiFi Sign for our community-informed expansion project (2022–2023)

South Bend has doubled down on our work to address the digital divide in recent years: We became an Indiana Broadband Ready Community , we’ve done lots of research and pilots (see here and here for examples), and we have nurtured new collaborations in the South Bend Connectivity Coalition.

Recently, we were very honored to be recognized as a “Visionary” Digital Equity Trailblazer City of the National Digital Inclusion Alliance!

Check out the video below featuring a wide array of local partners all working together in a shared digital equity mission. The video features remarks from Denise Linn Riedl, our Chief Innovation Officer, Regina Emberton of regional dark fiber network ChoiceLight, the Citywide Classroom Project, and other partners.

Also take a look at the podcast/video below! Our Technology Equity Manager, Patrick McGuire, was featured on the “Ready or Not” Podcast talking internet access, speed tests, and other digital inclusion topics!

The NDIA’s designation is a hugh honor for the City and our community. While there’s still a lot of work ahead of us to reach our Digital Equity Roadmap Goals, there is a lot of progress we can celebrate.
