About our Team

Our team is a versatile, “swiss army knife” problem solver for all city departments. Posed as internal consultants in city government, we leverage data, design, and IT to improve operations and help our neighbors. Read more pieces on this blog to see the wide array of things we deliver for our government partners and residents.

You would be a good fit for our team if…

  • You love working on diverse teams with diverse skillsets: developers, frontline workers, designers, analysts, managers, elected officials…
  • You are proactive and entrepreneurial. People who thrive in our department love to learn, love to try new things, and are energized by complexity — not afraid of it!
  • You have a positive attitude and a kind, respectful customer service mindset. Our team mantra is “Listen First, Build With.” and we take it very seriously. Whether you’re installing open wifi in neighborhoods, procuring software with a department, or building a dashboard with a neighborhood association, we need to authentically partner with and respect users.
One of our analysts who was analyzing our police recruitment data decided to take the PD physical exam to better understand what recruits — especially female recruits — go through!

But…why South Bend?

Why not?! Here’s a few things our team members wanted to say to you, our future colleagues:

On why we love South Bend (Note: There is a cool new benefits program that gives you perks for moving to South Bend!):

“I love the genuine sense of civic pride I find throughout the community! So many people genuinely care about building a stronger community and city, and that’s exciting to be part of both as a resident and through working with the City.” — Elijah Grammer (Innovation Fellow, 1 year at the City)

“Between the amenities, size, and cost of living, this is a spectacularly family-friendly place to be and. I can afford daycare for my three kids and my commute is <15 minutes. As a busy working mom with lots to juggle, I am so grateful to live and work here!” — Me (Chief Innovation Officer, 5 years at the City)

On why we love working at the City:

“Every single person within our I&T team has a voice, the ability to be heard and contribute and to accomplish what we do does rely on every single person contributing and being part of the solution, you can see how you individually contributed to an initiative larger than yourself but you made a difference in what has developed or delivered!” — Dan O’Connor (Chief Technology Officer, 7 years at the City)

“My favorite part about working in I&T is simply the people! Everyone is so nice and willing to help however they can!” — Nick Hammerstrom (Application Developer, 1 year at the City)

“South Bend is a sizeable (100k+) city, but it’s not too big that the City teams cannot actively engage with the citizens that we serve, and the work we do has measurable differences on people’s lives. Also, for a City of our size, we can regularly hang with larger cities across the country by the high quality of the tech projects that we are working on.” — Shawn Delahanty (Director of Enterprise Services & Software, 10+ years at the City)
