Each year, Techpoint hosts the Mira Awards which recognizes the “best in tech” here in Indiana. Imagine our surprise when I&T, a small government technology team, was recognized as the Mission41K Exceptional Employer of the year!

“The Mira Awards showcase the very best of Indiana’s digital innovation community, and this year, we had the most competitive pool of applicants yet.” — TechPoint President and CEO Ting Gootee

In the past 2 years we have embraced all kinds of hiring, recruiting, and culture-building initiatives to make I&T a great place to work. A glimpse:

We’ve embraced skills-based assessments in our hiring — especially for analysts, project managers, product managers and developers. This has been a great way to pinpoint highly skilled or high potential individuals from less traditional educational backgrounds or less work experience.

We’ve built quaterly awards into the pace of life in I&T, taking time to celebrate great employees that exhibit the characteristics we aim to embody as a technology and innovation support team: collaboration, kindness, resiliency, responsiveness, and curiosity.

We’ve gotten more creative about recruitment. We now work across many national partners to get the word out when we hire. We were also one of just two local governments highlighted at the TechtoGov Virtual Career Fair. Read about it here. One of our recent employees found out about our team via this national Career Fair!

In 2023, we conducted a required Department-wide survey to get feedback from employees — what movtivates them, how connected they feel to mission, how connected they feel to their teams, etc. The survey resulted in great data and ideas for improvement, but perhaps the best part of it was this: 100% of our employees would recommend I&T as a place to work.

We use partnerships to support our local talent retention and training pipelines. South Bend is lucky enough to have great partners like enFocus and the IT Sector Partnership that supply our City team with great fellows and interns.

To celebrate the Mira recognition, our team got together to take team pictures the week after the award ceremony:

Thanks so much for the award, Techpoint! Here’s a picture of I&T team members at the City’s Colfax Street Office.
Since our team is hybrid/nomadic, we took a Teams-based virtual picture as well to cover our bases!
Here’s a picture of I&T team members at South Bend’s Ignition Park Tech Park.

Thank you so much to Mayor Mueller, City Leadership, and our many partners for supporting our team!

Thank you, Techpoint!
