In February, the Innovation Lab hosted a workshop by videographer and drone enthusiast Donny Klotz. Since then, Klotz has moved to Hawaii and recently caught video from his drone of a dog being rescued after being washed to sea from the dangerous cliffs on China Wall Beach in Oahu.

The video has been viewed more than 40,000 times in less than a week, and has been featured in stories on Inside Edition, The Weather Channel, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, and many more. “Brave owner rescues pet,” is a video package staple. The real story is how technology is changing the way news is produced, and consumed. Much as blogs democratized print journalism, drones combined with low cost high quality video cameras are prepared to do the same to television-style journalism.

The Resource Bundle will be talking to Donny Klotz about his new viral video, how it has affected him as a freelance videographer, and the changing face of the news business. Follow us here on Medium, and on Twitter to keep up with the latest in tech at the St. Petersburg College, Seminole campus Innovation Lab.
