BlockX Labs and API Garage

Working on the product design of 7+ products with these sister software development shops and it’s been an absolutely heavenly experience thus far.

My love of distributed computing, product design, and social impact are all being addressed in this firm. Most of all, it’s a company with a lot of great leaders who possess amazing product sense, as well as an empowering work environment. One such product that we shipped recently was MyFaucet:

Raise

Over the last year, I’ve been contributing to the product design (in a part-time pro-bono capacity) of this blockchain-powered social enterprise called Raise.

Raise is a digital corporate asset ownership platform based out of East Africa that will allow investors to invest in private companies (starting within the Lesser Developed World) via cryptoassets, in particular, digital securities. Raise’s mission is as follows:

Raise empowers anyone to create and manage digital shares and debt, automate your capitalization tables, create customized templates and organize your financings. Our platform is built with the latest blockchain technologies, ensuring compliance, strong security and gloablly trasnferrable securities.

One major outcome of my experience thus far was when I conducted a presentation on my work at Cryptocamp 2018 on Oct. 29th, 2018. CryptoCamp was Toronto’s first-ever blockchain unconference. This 100%-volunteer-led event brought the entire blockchain community together, showcased some of the most interesting products and projects, and paid it forward by offering Blockchain Bootcamp workshops.

It was an event completely organized by the community for the community, CryptoCamp aims to grow, connect, and diversify the ecosystem. It was an event that featured 60+ speakers/presenters and I was selected as one out of 100+ applicants. It was an incredible honour to have shared not only my experience working on Raise however but also to speak on a panel about Blockchain and Product Design (UX, Accessibility, and Usability).

To learn all about my experience designing for this wonderful startup, please take the time to read through the following case-study that I’ve been working on: https://medium.com/@tosfan4ever/raise-ux-ui-design-case-study-wip-6f3d26a21258.

AudaciousYou

Over the last 4 months, I’ve been participating in a 4-month experiential-learning program called AudaciousYou. AudaciousYou is an AI-powered, researched-backed, future-focused and employer-connected future of work startup. Their mission is to ensure accessible education and quality learning and work for all through their debt-free, degree-free, and lecture-free model.

This program has been an amazing experience for me as it ultimately has a stellar education model built on the following framework of 21st-Century learning. It is a triune-model that also strongly aligns with my triune “innovation-thinking” problem-solving mindset. Triangles are the most stable and strongest base/shape in the world, after all, therefore you can’t go wrong with an educational model that minimizes your cognitive load whilst maximizing your understanding of the world.

The company behind AudaciousYou— AudaciousFutures recently won 2 awards for another one of their educational products called FutureFit. These prestigious awards recognize innovations re-imagining the future of work and learning and are as follows: TD Bank’s Ready Challenge in partnership with JFF as well as US Department of Education’s Reimagining Higher Education Ecosystem Challenge. Here’s the press release.

Applications have just opened up for their next cohort! If you’re interested in participating, please feel free to message me and I’ll send you a referral.

Parkdale Centre for Innovation

Over the last 3+ months, I’ve also been taking a part-time product design course. This course is taught by a product design veteran called Mustefa Jo’shen and administered by the Parkdale Centre for Innovation; you can learn all about him and the center’s Executive Director, Rusul Alrubail here:

Thus far I’ve been learning a variety of topics such as most recently on the subject matter of information architecture. This one had inspired me so much so that I decided to write up an article. The article is all about how I break down a product feature recommendation in terms of its information architecture as well as of course UX and a bit of UI. Then I go on to explain why it would be a win-win for both the computer and the user. The first article is right here for your reading pleasure:
