The Civic Accelerator had a great 2015. We graduated our 6th cohort of social entrepreneurs scaling solutions benefiting women and girls, published our first 3-year impact report, launched a new website, and piloted Rapid Innovation Summits to support a broader audience of social innovators.

With too many successes to highlight, our team took a look back on the year to celebrate 5 of our most memorable moments.

5. Spring 2015 Launch Party on Twitter

Wildly exceeding expectations, our live digital Launch Party for the Spring 2015 cohort broke CivicX engagement and impression records thanks to our partners and friends!

4. Cohort 6: NYC Session

The 13 ventures in our Spring 2015 cohort participated in many sessions including an intimate conversation facilitated by Ayesha Khanna with Joy Anderson, Criterion Institute Founder and Theresa Younger, Ms. Foundation for Women CEO. The program culminated with a packed house for Demo Night at the Microsoft Tech Center in Times Square.

3. Social Innovator Meetup

As a part of the 2015 Conference on Volunteering and Service, the Civic Accelerator convened a sold out meetup and fireside chat with Cliff Burrows, Starbucks group president, U.S. and Americas, and 11 year-old Mikaila Ulmer, founder of BeeSweet Lemonade. We also announced and shared our 3-Year Impact Report during the conference.

2. Rapid Innovation Summits

As part of our goal to increase capacity and connect social impact communities around the country, we trained over 100 social innovators and “intrapreneurs” in rapid innovation, lean startup and design thinking over a series of 2-day workshops in Houston, Atlanta, and New Orleans.

1. CivicX Alumni Breakout

From the response efforts of Accountability Lab and WomenLEAD Nepal during the Nepal earthquake, to DeAndrea Nichols, Founder of Civic Creatives, representing the next generation of changemakers at the 2015 Conference on Volunteering and Service, to CODE2040 closing over $2 million in grants, our alumni had an exceptional year!

Looking forward to 2016…

With the success of 2015, we’re primed for an even bigger and better year in 2016. We’re excited to welcome our newest sponsor, Capital One, to help launch our 7th cohort which will focus on early stage, civic ventures that are creating greater digital and financial inclusion. The application will launch January 18. The official program will begin in April and conclude in June.

Our 2016 Conference will also take place in June and we are looking forward to convening innovators, nonprofit and community leaders in Detroit, Michigan for the nation’s largest conference dedicated to volunteerism and service.

From the Civic Accelerator team, we wish you very happy holidays!
