BAMS

The Start

Bulldogcard Attendance Management System (BAMS) was original developed for the Student ID (Bulldog Card) check-in process for Plagiarism workshops at Fresno State. The goal is to eliminate manual work of acquiring attendance data (participant information) and to allow compiling comprehensive reports .

The Problem (Attendance Tracking)

1. The BulldogCard (Fresno State ID Card) Reader only records student’s Peoplesoft ID (cmsid) in plain text or Excel file. The Event facilitators will have to match the Peoplesoft ID to identify each the participants.
2. Labs or offices generally require student sign-in on paper. It requires additional manual efforts to digitize and upload the data.
3. Attendance data are stored anywhere — no way to run comprehensive reports.

Potential Solution

• Gradefirst: 
  1. event (places) are required to be set up in advance;
  2. only accept participants with an active student status
  3. attendance records are shared among counselors — potential issue with events requiring confidential access to the participant data.

The BAMS Solution

• BAMS — a simple web app allowing events to be created on demand (just in time) to collect attendance data; integrated with campus user directory system (LDAP) for automatically fetching name and email information; attendance reports are only accessible to the event owners; basic report dashboard.

Hello Ida/Judith, Here is a quick summery of what the application will provide. This is not final, but, a start.

A Web Portal
1. Participants swipe the Bulldogcard for the attendance to be recorded
2. Verify participant’s enrollment record
 2.a Registered 
 2.b Switch Session — Confirm
 2.c No Registered — NO ACCESS
3. Select instructor/supervisor

Event Facilitators
Optional:
1. Ability for system managers to import Blackboard (gradebook) data for session rosters (registered attendees)
2. Ability for system managers to enter instructor/supervisor information for selection
Reporting: 
1. Realtime Attendance Online report (i.e. iPad)
2. Comprehensive Attendance report (detail attendee information) and can be exported to Excel
