On June 8, 2020, Founder and CEO of Goalbook, Daniel Jhin Yoo, made a public commitment to take anti-racist action as a company. Part of that commitment was allowing employees to donate to organizations that further black social justice causes. Every employee was able to donate $249 to an organization of their choice. Below you can learn about several organizations that Goalbook team members chose to support.

Equal Justice Initiative

Learn More

I donated to the Equal Justice Initiative because it helps with criminal justice reform and public education. Both of these sectors have been impacted by racial inequalities and injustices. I am happy that they are working towards helping improve these areas. Goalbook Team Member, Paige Lafferty

Founded over 30 years ago, the Equal Justice Initiative initially provided Alabama prisoners with legal defense at no cost to them. Since then, they’ve grown in staff and mission to include anti-racist reporting, advocacy, and education. They have a 100% Charity Navigator grade and I feel like whenever they get more money, they do more good. Goalbook Team Member, Joy Maloney

The Conscious Kid

Learn More

The Conscious Kid promotes developing healthy racial identity forming in youth. Specifically, they aspire to support folks with disrupting racism by encouraging racial literacy as a means to shape the narrative about black and brown youth. As a father of two children, I often find myself using resources and book lists to guide what I’m reading with my own children. They recently sent a collection of anti-racist books to over 3,000 educators to use in the classroom with students. This was due to an increase in donations, and I’m grateful to have the opportunity at Goalbook to support such a worthy cause. Goalbook Team Member, Nick Courtney

The Loveland Foundation

Learn More

The Loveland Foundation is committed to showing up for communities of color in unique and powerful ways. With a particular focus on black women and girls, they provide various social and health services. One of those services is free access to mental health care and healing. I agree with Malcolm X when he said the black woman (and girl) is the most disrespected, most unprotected, and most neglected person in America. Right now that is on full display with the murder of Breonna Taylor, and the recent verdict indicating that the walls that the stray bullets hit were more important than Breonna Taylor’s life. That’s why I chose The Loveland Foundation. I want to support any organization that aims to uplift, protect, and support our black women and girls. Goalbook Team Member, Erika Hernandez

Learn More

Richmond For All is a grassroots organization with a mission that states: “Collectively we organize in defense of public resources, in support of a transformed democratic process, and for people-first representation in municipal elections. We strive to be unbought and unbossed.” I wanted to donate to an organization in my city that works to provide equity in housing and education issues. Goalbook Team Member, Hannah Rooney
