In 2017 The Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) gave final approval for the adoption of new English language arts and reading TEKS standards for grades K–12 to be implemented in classrooms beginning with the 2019–2020 school year.

Texas Districts have independently created timelines for implementation which means some schools have already adopted all of the 2017 standards and others have chosen to continue to use the 2009 standards and implement the 2017 standards later.

In an effort to best serve all of our Texas partners with usable Content Pages and Anchor Pages we have added 200 of the 2017 standards and all of the 2009 ELAR standards remain in the tool. This is just the beginning of that effort and we are planning to have all of the new standards reflected in Toolkit before the 2019–2020 deadline.

Below you’ll find examples of how to identify the new standards.

From the Browse Instructional Content page you’ll see the blue 2017 tag in the bottom right hand corner of the Anchor Page and Content Page tiles.

From the Content Pages and Anchor Pages you’ll see the 2017 label in the right hand sidebar under the save to library button.
