Being own Hero in Leadership journey
Teaching Leadership to executive teams is not about telling them what to do. The inspiration from previous interview with the young talent reminds me of helping leaders to build their “Leadership Being” that leads, motivates, and inspires team to grow, to perform, and to succeed in their roles.
Building capabilities is yet important for new leaders. However, realizing that someone in very senior positions have gone through series of leadership development programs, so I reoriented my focus on redesign a workshop that allows the learners to discover their “Being” — own hero to help, to support, and to embrace all relationships at work and at home so that they can create the safe space for people to share their needs, hopes, dreams, fears, challenges, etc. and not being judged or ignored.
They learn how to develop this leadership being by series of self-awareness activities, reflections, and group sharing. After one and a half day of discovering themselves — they have enough space now to listen and learn the young team members with empathy. The result is spectacular — they are amazing of how capable and willing their team members are.
When they apply “leadership being”, not only “leadership doing” — people can feel and are more willing to work towards mutual goals more easily, and that’s why they can be their own hero to create more positive impacts to the world around them.
