Unbeaten in August

Friday night lights are always a spectacle at the Gardens. The immediate memory harks back to the final game of last season and that incredible atmosphere against Stade Francais! And though only a preseason game, Saints produced another cracker of a watch last Friday as they rounded off their preseason campaign by hosting Ulster on home soil.

Thus far unbeaten in August, after strong wins over Dragons, Nottingham and Glasgow Warriors, Saints produced more of the same and ran in nine (yes NINE!) tries against their Irish guests to complete their preseason without loss.

Sending Mr Foden over just two minutes in, Saints looked on good form, dominating Ulster in the first quarter though the travelling side had settled into it somewhat at the game went into half time.

But the game was to be Saints and eight tries later, after sending Kieran Brookes, Tom Collins (2), Alex Mitchell (2), Michael Paterson (2) and James Grayson over too, the home side had scooped another win in August and, without wanting to jinx anything, go into the Aviva Premiership season opener against Saracens at the London Double Header at Twickenham unbeaten as yet…
