Do you Even Know (about) Kashmir?

Kashmir has always been an “issue.” It hasn’t been a place in our minds. It hasn’t been people for Mainland Indians. Everyone in Mainland India has an opinion on Kashmir, a one-liner they swear by. But no one has striven to actually know what goes on in the valley. The amount of misleading information, misinterpretation of history and just the lack of knowledge amongst Indians about Kashmir is telling. It speaks for how we have never cared. There has been no ethics of caring. No real, material, historical rootedness to this place in terms of empathy. This gap has given way to what we witness today. This gap between information and reality, between people and issues, between politics and the everyday. This document is a collection of people who have cared, and we didn’t listen to. Of people who continue to live the issues we write about, opinionate about. Politics is an act of caring about those whose lives go uncared for and become a bedrock of our knowledge only in their oppression.
