Insert Here Playlist Vol.02 CMJ Edition
An ode to CMJ fests of past. Featuring Pixies, Wilco, Bowie, and more…
The CMJ music marathon was a New York City institution that burned hard for 35 years. As all good things come to end, so did CMJ’s run. As the 36th festival would have happened this week we wanted to put a playlist together in reverence of its rich history as ‘one of music industry’s most important festivals.’
Arcade Fire | Wake Up
CMJ’s darling band in 2004. Big sounds & powerful arrangements on this introsepctive track.
Pixies | Monkey Gone To Heaven
Meditative alt rock soaked in numerology & environmentalism (ahead of its time in 1989).
The Roots | Concerto Of A Desperado
Jazz laced hip-hop from Philly’s finest before Jimmy Fallon was a thing.
Raveonettes | LUST
Dirty synth, fuzzy guitars, deep bass expertly weaved into shoe gazey pop. Play loud, very loud.
Echo & Bunnymen | The Killing Moon
The band’s early pièce de résistance. This is one of those songs you never tire of hearing no matter how much its played.
David Bowie | Five Years
A beautiful cinematic introduction to the enigmatic Starman.
Wilco | Jesus, etc.
One of the best tracks from the epic Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.
My Morning Jacket | Touch Me I’m Going To Scream Pt. 1
Feel good groovy rock — will most likely get the dopamine flowing.
Bright Eyes | Lua
Deep introspection on this acoustic track from one of the best singer-songwriters in the game.
Gang Starr (feat. Inspectah Deck) | Above The Clouds
Hip-Hop royalty converge to make one of the best records of the decade.
Frankie Cosmos | Young
Lo key indie pop rock carries poetic lyrics that would sound right at home in a Noah Baumbach film.
Afghan Whigs | Summer’s Kiss
Rock n’ roll tinged with funk never sounded so good.
