New Stats. Seriously?

Finally, a new feature from Medium. Kindness or mockery?

The usual electrocardiogram of my stories.

You may have noticed that recently Medium introduced a redesign of the stats details of stories.

Maybe you appreciate the graphics, but no additional information is provided, except “your readers’ interests”, which in my case always appears like that:

Pretty useless change among tons of much-needed features, not addressed since years.

Not amazing. That’s Medium.

What’s amazing is the newsletter that we received, with “new stats for your stories” in the title.

Medium, are you serious and are you considering me a stupid, or are you joking? If you’re joking, please, when delivering those newsletters, put a “humor” tag in evidence at the beginning. I’m not good at recognizing humor in these cases.

I try to remain serious and read the newsletter, and I see them bragging about the new stats.

We miss a customizable profile, search tools, a reorganization of the topics, multilingual support, tools for the publications, and much more, and they brag about “new details” which have nothing new.

Icing on the cake:

“We designed that based on your feedback.”

Do you want to know what’s our feedback, Medium? Ask us.

Or maybe read us. There’s plenty of stories with feedback on Medium. Here’s a good example, for stats.

Let’s check the “new stats.”

Possibility of having separated stats for stories and comments? Still missing.

Stats over a period different than 30 days? Still missing.

Number of comments per story? Still missing.

Number of claps per story? Still missing.

Filters for grouping stories, e.g. by tags or by publication? Still missing.

Compact view of the general list (you seem not to know, Medium, but many of us wrote hundreds of stories)? Still missing.

Tracking traffic source over time? Still missing.

Date of the story? Still missing.

Indication if the story is members-only (or maybe total earning) in the general list? Still missing.

I could go on with a long list, but it would be just wasted time.

Who visits the statistics needs an informational interface, not an idiot-proof interface (which is not too, by the way).

The “new stats” are smoke in the eyes to avoid giving us true stats. And to avoid addressing the most needed features.

Beyond hiring dozens of editors, do you mind, Medium, to put someone at work on the platform seriously?
