You Can Put Ads on Your Medium Stories
UPDATE January 21, 2019: As of September 21, 2018, rules have changed, but still first-party promotion is allowed. Also, confusion in rules and guidelines is still there (mentioning that you cannot sell advertising) and affiliate links are explicitly allowed.
What’s one of the distinctive traits of Medium? It’s ad-free. Authors, here, don’t write for impressions. And we love Medium also for that. As Ev Williams himself well states: “it’s clear that the broken system is ad-driven media on the internet.”
So, what should be explicitly forbidden, on Medium, part of Internet with rules? Advertising, of course.
Please, help me find that in Medium Rules or Medium Terms of Service, because — except a generic prohibition of “Posting content primarily to drive traffic to, or increase the search rankings of, an external site” — I can’t find this ban anywhere.
