My decision to join Bukalapak four years ago was driven by the desire to be a part of positive transformations in Indonesian society. I feel so lucky that during my time in the company, I have been given a number of opportunities to fulfill this desire by being involved in multiple projects with concrete positive impact.

One of the most notable ones came in 2020 when the government introduced the Kartu Prakerja program, which focused on providing training assistance to enhance the skills and competencies of the Indonesian workforce. Bukalapak stepped in as one of the program’s digital platform partners and I was honored to be assigned to lead the project.

Beyond building strategic partnerships with various training organizers and ensuring seamless training classes transactions in Bukalapak, I perceive it as an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the society.

We have also leveraged our collaboration with the training organizers beyond the digital sphere by conducting a wide range of training courses that are free of charge and open to all Kartu Prakerja participants, alumni, and anybody wishing to hone their abilities in various career fields and entrepreneurship.

Over the course of three years in the program, Bukalapak has partnered with over 90 training institutions and delivered more than 600 training sessions on various topics to over 6 million Prakerja participants.

The Inspiring Tale of Prakerja’s Alumni

One of the values promoted by Kartu Prakerja is lifelong learning — a concept we at Bukalapak are committed to also promoting with this collaboration. Just like what the program aims at, we want to continually facilitate self improvement and create more extensive opportunities to foster a culture of lifelong learning, anytime and anywhere. We firmly believe that everyone, regardless of age, gender, or background, deserves the chance to keep learning and enhancing their skills.

One of the Prakerja alums, Jhon Calvin, presents a motivating experience for young people and everyone else of all ages. After graduating from college in 2022, he launched eathealth.id, a healthy food business in Makassar, South Sulawesi. As he began running his business, he faced numerous obstacles that eventually forced him to put his business on hold. This is what drove him to seek opportunities to sharpen his skills and knowledge on online business. He eventually discovered the Kartu Prakerja program and immediately opted to join a training class from one of the training organizers on the subject. Joining the class also gave him the motivation he needed when he was at his lowest point.

While attending the class, there is a quote that stood out to him, which was, “Working is not just about working hard, but also about working smart”. Since then, this quote has been his guiding principle.

After completing the training, Jhon launched his own digital marketing agency with freshly-gained confidence. With insights he gained from the training, he is determined to gradually grow his business and even revive his food business.

Jhon’s story is among many success stories of Kartu Prakerja program alumni who have undergone transformational experiences.

The pride of being part of this collaborative effort grew even more when we hosted last year’s visit from Cambodia’s National Social Protection Council (NSPC) to Bukalapak’s office to gain insights into the Kartu Prakerja program. Bukalapak had the opportunity to explain the program’s processes and operations to the Cambodian NSPC delegation as well as the impact we have brought to all of the Kartu Prakerja participants.

As my journey at Bukalapak continues, I’m excited about taking on more projects that will open doors to even more growth opportunities for Indonesians across all backgrounds.
