Announcing Design Leadership Camp #002, Kaloa, Hawaii
Last Spring, I was fortunate enough to be a part of the inaugural Design Leadership Camp, which happened in Gateway Canyons, Colorado and was produced by the Bureau of Digital in partnership with InVision. In the presence of 30 veteran design leaders, and in a setting that was nothing less than spectacular, we discussed topics from communicating the value of design to operationalizing a growing design team.
This year we’re getting ready to build upon this experience, in another location that should prove to be even more inspirational — Hawaii. The second Design Leadership Camp will be happening between April 16–19 2018, at Koloa Landing on the island of Kauai.
As Heidi Munc, AVP of User Experience at Nationwide, observed at last year’s camp, this is a chance to be “equal parts student and teacher.” It will be an intimate gathering of about 30 design leaders, for honest conversations about the toughest problems they face in their work. Once again, we’re keeping the event small to ensure the conversations stay productive and attendees can form personal connections that will last far beyond their time together at Design Leadership Camp.

Zen and the art of managing a design team
Wicked problems can be easier to face with a beginner’s mind, and what better way to enter a state of Zen than to be surrounded by the natural beauty of Kauai. Whether you’re taking in the sweeping vistas from the trails perched above the rugged coastline, or snorkeling with friendly sea turtles, Design Leadership Camp will allow for plenty of time to connect with your peers and reset outside the confines of a traditional conference room.
The goal of the camp is threefold: recharge your batteries, develop the essential skills you need to level up in your career, and make connections with peers at other companies who can provide valuable guidance and support.
