Dr Thomas Juli is my guest today on Inside Ideas. He is a human business architect, the founder, managing director and curator of Motivate2B, and a renowned coach in agile company and project transformation with more than 25 years of experience across a variety of industries and organisations.

His vision is to help human business establish itself as the new global normal within ten years.

“Why are we in business in the first place? To generate value for people and we do this, not by resources but by people. So the purpose of a modern business is human business,” he said. “Even in nature you can have a hierarchy, however it’s not static, it’s adaptive, it’s flexible and that is the key. You can still have a hierarchy in a business but it needs to be adaptive.”

On his vision to make human business the new norm, he said: “Personally, I want to help contribute to establishing human business as the new global norm by the year 2030. Do I have a masterplan of how to get there? No. Do I have some ideas of what I’m going to do next? Yes. I’m a fan of little projects, steps, connecting them, building networks, just like imaginal cells one step at a time they explore and learn from each other. There is a key question that can help to serve as guidance, it’s not what the future will look like but it’s actually — how do we want to live? With each other and the planet. It’s an opening question because it makes us game-changers. We can shape our future and we have to do it responsibly.”

Which, he says, means treating people like human beings.

“Let’s kill Human Resources. We don’t need HR, because we’re not a human resource, we’re human beings. If HR treats people as resources, cost factors, it’s missing what it’s all about. It’s supposed to be there for us to help to assist and support employees and not to treat them as resources, as ‘things’, as products. It’s not about human resource, but more about human recognition.”

In his new book, The Spirit of Human Business: How to Rediscover our Human Being to Shape Our Future, he elucidates the economic gains that can be achieved by putting people at the heart of economic activities.

I am delighted to welcome Dr Juli back onto Inside Ideas to learn more about human business and the new global norms he believes it should deliver.
