The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) today successfully launched the IRNSS-1G, the seventh satellite of the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System into a Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit. The launch took place from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, where the Satish Dhawan Space Center (SDSC) is located. The launch vehicle, PSLV-C33 was equipped with six strap-ons, each carrying 12 tons of propellant — the XL configuration, which was used for the 13th time. Overall, this is the 34th consecutively successful mission of PSLV.

Once the IRNSS-1G becomes operational in approximately 1 month, it would offer a host of services including terrestrial & marine navigation, disaster management, vehicle tracking & fleet management, and every day navigation.

With this launch, India is one of the five countries in the world to have its own network of navigational satellites.
