We are happy to announce that we will be supporting Hour of Code during Computer Science Education Week from Dec. 5 to Dec. 11. Our team is hard at work creating kahoots based on the popular and accessible tutorials from Code.org that will be featured on our platform so everyone can have a taste of the fun. Through the power of game-based-learning, we will do our part to bring coding to life!

“We’re grateful for the support of Kahoot! toward our goal to bring the opportunity to learn computer science to all students,” said Hadi Partovi, founder of Code.org. “The competitive play approach developed by Kahoot! is a great addition to any Hour of Code experience, and will help us reach even more educators and learners.”

Students worldwide will be encouraged to collaborate and create their own learning games on Kahoot!, based on the Hour of Code tutorials they play. Through what we have coined “learners to leaders”, students can create challenges for others to solve to help empower themselves to become leaders in the classroom — and have fun doing it too!

Computing is the No. 1 source of wages in the U.S., with over 500,000 computing jobs currently open across the nation. Despite this, computer science remains untaught in most schools. The Hour of Code campaign is trying to change this by inspiring teachers and students everywhere to explore computer science through hour-long activities. Activities feature characters from Minecraft, Frozen, Star Wars, and others — and no experience with computer science is required to teach them in a classroom. Activities can also be played on any modern browser, tablet, smartphone or even without a computer at all.

“At Kahoot!, we want to make learning something everyone can — and wants to — connect with,” said Johan Brand, founder and CSO of Kahoot!. “We’re excited to support the Hour of Code campaign, given its aligned mission to Kahoot! regarding gender, socio-economic status and breaking down country borders in the important area of computer science.”

This partnership is the first formal collaboration in support of Hour of Code, but we can’t wait to explore longer-term collaborations to help support computer science education. On top of featuring content on the platform, we will also have a temporary new logo on our game controllers, which will be revealed during Computer Science Education Week.

About Hour Of Code

The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science designed to demystify “code,” to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science that has reached over 100 million students in more than 180 countries. The grassroots campaign is organized by Code.org and supported by over 400 partners and 200,000 educators globally. Join this year’s Hour of Code at hourofcode.com!
