50 Taylor Swift Songs That Are Not About Her Love Relationships
The haters need to calm down
Global music superstar, Taylor Swift, is frequently criticized for writing so many songs about breakups and boyfriends. But this is a disingenuous critique since it’s no secret that is what most songwriters write about. Her male contemporaries such as Harry Styles and Bruno Mars write almost exclusively about love and relationships, and nobody complains about them.
In addition, Swift has written more than 50 songs that are about other topics — ranging from dealing with haters and fame to the struggles being experienced by family and friends. Some are about made-up characters and others are just about life. The first song on my list is Epiphany, written during the pandemic about the stress and trauma experienced by healthcare workers and how that has a lot of similarities to being a soldier in a war.
Swift’s 2020 album Folklore is primarily about three characters in a love triangle, James, Betty, and Augustine. In other words, even some of the songs about love and break-ups aren’t about her life. Artists make art, and although it’s clear that Swift often uses music to help her process things, not every song of hers is entirely autobiographical — because she’s creating a piece of art.
