Gamers Stand Up To Homophobic Misogynistic Comments In Their Midst
Marvel Strike Force distances itself from Khasino after inappropriate jokes
At the end of this story are the unedited transcripts of conversations I had with Khasino subsequent to its original publication. They have been added at his insistence.
“Super-human snatch taster” — “volcanic vagina violater” — these are just a few of the humorous nicknames that gaming-content-creator personality Khasino came up with for Negasonic Teenage Warhead, a lesbian character who had just been added to the mobile game, Marvel Strike Force (MSF). Even if you aren’t a comic book fan, you may remember this character from Deadpool 2, where she was the first LGBTQ character in a major superhero movie to be openly shown as part of a same-sex couple. MSF introduced “Negasonic” as she is known as part of a special “Unity” event during Pride month. Last year for Pride, MSF introduced America Chavez, a super-powered hero who is bisexual.
Some of Khasino’s fans and fellow gamers agreed with him that these names were funny and no big deal, but many of them did not, including MSF parent company, Scopely, who cut ties with Khasino almost immediately. Scopely released this…
