I’ve spent the past couple of days, since the killing of Charlie Kirk, in a kind of stupor of disbelief. To be honest, I feel like I’m in some sort of Alice in Wonderland bizarro world where facts have absolutely no relevance and where a couple of people I actually quite liked have revealed themselves to be sociopaths.
A sociopath is someone who has no regard for social norms, rules, or the feelings of others. The DSM says this label applies to only about 1–2% of the population, but every time I’ve left my bubble, I see them everywhere lately, screaming about the martyrdom of an angel; a truly good Christian man. One woman told me, “Charlie Kirk wasn’t perfect, but pretty darn close.”
What drugs are you people actually on? Oh, right, it’s hate, and it’s being taken in such profound quantities right now that it’s sparked a kind of descent into madness. As former President Obama has noted, this country has reached “an inflection point.” Which way we’ll ultimately go is anybody’s guess but it’s not looking too good right now.
