So long stills, now pictures move

A new era is coming in mobile photography. It’s a motion era. Pictures are great to treasure memories but moving pictures are even better, because they capture life.

The family of moving pictures is growing fast. PHHHOTO paved the way when they launched their very classy “Instant Moving Pictures” three years ago. Instagram followed the path with Boomerang becoming more and more popular every day. Both reinvented GIF with people’s daily moments. PHHHOTO creates arty moving pictures and Boomerang funny ones.

The prettiest guy in the room is Apple Live Photo. When Apple launched this great feature last year, it literally blew my mind. People like M.G. Siegler understood at once that it would be a major shift in mobile photography. I think most of the Apple lovers didn’t realize immediately what was at stake here. I remember I was a bit suspicious myself the very first time I tried it. And then you leave two or three of your unconvincing attempts in your gallery until, a few weeks later, you scroll over your photos in the train and… magic happens. Just by touching the screen you feel this instant of the past deeper. It moves just like in your memory.

Feel the rhythm

To create visual stories in super-condensed form, you need a secret sauce. PHHHOTOs and Boomerangs are great for their rhythm. PHHHOTO tempo is regular, smooth. When you scroll over your feed you feel hypnotised & zen. Boomerang tempo is more bouncy. It’s hard to tell exactly what’s going on but this weird elasticity of the movement makes it captivating. We are huge fans of both, but there is one thing missing : CONTROL.

Apple got it! The greatness of Live Photo is to make you jump from a still photo to its moving context in a very smooth way. You decide if you want to dive deeper in your memory or not. The only thing I found frustrating is what makes GIFs so fun : the never-ending LOOP.

Join the party, try Pops now!

Pops is a camera to shoot a new kind of photos. Photos that move in your hands. Photos born to be alive 🔥

Last spring, we started to craft our own moving pictures in Paris. We are a small crew made of photographers + designers + developers. At first we were inspired by holographic cards from the 90’s. Do you remember the Ninja Turtles magic cards you found in your Kellogg’s? That’s what we are dealing with here. Then we moved to Brooklyn to get some fresh inspiration and continue the hard work. Our goal is to make a camera that captures life and create better memories for people. We are exciting to see the very first version of Pops into your hands. It will be out on the AppStore in a couple of days.

If you want to shoot Pops before anyone else, register now on trypops.com. ☀️
