Updating investors seems like a pain and you have never done it? No biggie let me help you with that!

Presenting a very simple email template to update investors:

You can download it here — (SaaS ready version)

You can download it here — (Ecommerce ready version)

  • an initial quick sentence giving the taste of the month’s performance
  • quickly move to the KPIs, this should be the core of the email, I have never seen a good update email without numbers. At best follow your P&L structure (makes perfectly sense for a retail company, if you are a SaaS you should probably tweak some items)
  • once you are done with KPIs then give an overview of notable initiative, their status quo and if it makes sense state how they are going to influence your KPIs (example: launching our new referral program -> we hope to decrease 5% our blended CPO )
  • do not forget to mention how investors can help you (intros to other investors, financial modelling review, PR support and so on)

Tip: once you have sent the first investor update email, answer to it the month after so that you have a chain with old updates (every year or every 6 months start a new one)

Pro tip: if you are not doing it already put all the investors under: investors@yourcompany.com
