Revolutionizing the Fan/Influencer Relationship Dynamic

An Entirely New Market

Since the early 2000s, vlogging has become a massive phenomenon. Influencers upload or live stream videos of themselves providing guidance and advice in almost every field, and fans can’t get enough of them. While some of these influencers have millions of followers, most are considered “micro influencers,” and have more modestly sized audiences made up of dedicated fan bases.

Influencers mainly make money by advertising and promoting brands. Since corporations prefer to advertise to large audiences, only influencers with large fan-bases can profit from releasing their content. Micro influencers have a difficult time monetizing their assets.

Direct Connections

ScaleAbout has created a new type of monetization opportunity for influencers of all audience sizes.

It enables fans to purchase personalized responses from their favorite influencers, yielding greater satisfaction for fans, and reducing influencers’ reliance on corporate sponsorship. The company is set to stage a revolution in the entire fan/influencer relationship dynamic.

The Beginning of the Journey

The company was founded by Adam Frank and Idan Maor, former classmates at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. (“Love at first sight,” they say.) When asked how they came up with the idea for ScaleAbout, Adam replied that they imagined what the future would hold for the influencer industry. They believed that the micro-influencer phenomenon would continue to grow, and wanted to find a more efficient method of monetization for them.

A Unique System

Idan and Adam recall that there has been a paradigm shift in public opinion concerning fans paying directly to influencers. It used to be considered unusual to pay influencers, but a number of other companies were successful in changing the social norms. Now, ScaleAbout is taking the next step in the market, allowing for influencers to directly provide “tailor-made” videos to fans and charge money accordingly.

Why Jerusalem

Adam and Idan remember making a conscious decision to start their business in Jerusalem. They partly attributed their decision to remain in Jerusalem to the age of the startup ecosystem. “It is a young startup ecosystem, so everybody knows everybody,” says Adam. The two remember the support they have received from investors and the local government. In their early stages, they worked with the Siftech startup accelerator, which was the first startup accelerator in the city. Even today they are still well connected to Siftech; Adam organizes “CTO meetups” at the Siftech office with MadeinJLM.
