What does it look like when your company culture and values are intertwined on a level playing field?

For many companies, values are a checkbox. They may live in a dusty handbook or perhaps a generic poster on the wall. Employees might learn them during their first week of onboarding and never revisit them again.

At Ambassador, our values are a vital piece of our culture; we live and breathe them on a daily basis. Our values play a pivotal role in who we hire, how we assess performance and, most importantly, it’s the standard to which we hold ourselves and our fellow diplomats.

The Evolution of Ambassador’s Values

In 2016, we decided to revisit our values. A group of emerging leaders at Ambassador came together to answer a few key questions:

  • What is truly core to our success?
  • To date, how have we won as a leader in the space?
  • Looking ahead into the future, how will we continue to win?

There were many great ideas, suggestions and themes that were discussed among the group. After much deliberation, we came to a consensus of 7 core habits that would define how we operate.

In a single word, we OUTCARE.

What does it mean to OUTCARE?

OUTCARE plays into every interaction we have both internally and externally. OUTCARE is the set of values we are committed to as individuals, as a company and as a promise to our customers.

Own It: Having ownership creates a higher commitment and allows us to take pride in what we do. We commit to seeking responsibility, being accountable and having an impact within the company.

Understand Why: Knowing and understanding why allows us to be as effective as possible whether we’re solving problems or coming up with solutions. We commit to digging deeper, being prepared, communicating clearly and having empathy.

Think Long Term: Short-term solutions do not add long-term value. We commit to creating value by investing in relationships, using sound judgement and pushing ourselves to continuously learn.

Choose Comradery: Our teams are not siloed and are focused on collaboration. We commit to building trust and honesty by embracing togetherness in our shared goals and experiences.

Always Customer Obsessed: We lead by driving value for our customers and their businesses. Whenever we chat with our clients, we hear that the biggest differentiator when working with Ambassador is that our team goes above and beyond to provide the best possible experience. We commit to anticipating needs, overdelivering and solving for our customers.

Raise the Bar: It’s the small details that have the largest impact. We commit to pursuing excellence by challenging ourselves, expecting the best and assisting others while embracing continuous improvement.

Execute with Urgency: We execute quickly to get the job done while driving results. We commit to being resourceful doers that are able to accomplish more with less.

Our commitment to OUTCARE manifests in how our customers view Ambassador and how our employees feel about the company. It shows in high ratings on Glassdoor as well as frequent awards for best places to work. It is recognized every Monday in our company-wide huddle when we highlight employees for their weekly display of exceptional work tied to our values. And at the end of the year, 7 employees are nominated for exemplifying each value as well as one overall OUTCARE winner.

At the end of the day, OUTCARE is not just who we are, it’s what sets us apart.
