And just like that, we’ve reached the halfway point of this series.

In part 1, we discussed letting go of the past. In part 2, we figured out the tenets of storytelling.

This part is inspired by Anne Lamott’s book, Bird by Bird.

I’ve been meaning to share this exact thought for a long time, but only now, after reading the book do I have a good way of putting it into words.

During my writing journey, I’ve come across hundreds if not thousands of impediments from both my internal and external environment.

Several times I could’ve thrown in the towel and stopped writing.

But rather than throwing in the towel and not showing up at all, I’ve started shortening my stories.

I remind myself to get through the day. Instead of sharing an elaborate idea, I break it down. I think of my article from the perspective of an Atomic Idea.

This article is an example of one such Atomic Idea.

Rather than writing a long 1000-word article, I break it down into six articles of 200 or 300 words each.

Not only does it give me ammunition for the next six days, but it also makes the task a lot less daunting.

The most important part of your writing activity is to hit the publish button.

Here’s an excerpt from Anne Lamott’s book👇🏾

Excerpt from the book Bird By Bird — How not to feel overwhelmed in your writing journey.

When I began, I was desperate to find a niche and I wanted my writing format to be consistent.

But after writing for this long I can share this fact👇🏾

You don’t need a niche, a format nor should your articles be a minimum number of words.

These are restrictions.

When you have rules or restrictions even before you know what you are getting yourself into, they end up becoming major obstacles and stop you from writing altogether.

So, break free — and write.

Day by day, piece by piece, bird by bird.

This has been a game-changer for me.

Are you ready to change the game for yourself?
