Did George W. Bush vote for Trump?
An article by CNN surprised me today: “George W. Bush did not vote for Clinton”. So he must have voted for Trump! What a surprise, what a scandal, what a story! Did he really vote for him? Even after that, let’s call it, “locker room talk gate”! And what about Laura Bush? Isn’t she a strong women and former first lady after all?! Poor Hillary! I really thought that former presidents and first ladies vote for each other…Isn’t there some kind of invisible strong bond?
I immediately clicked on the link and read the article… Then finally fact based information! Turns out the Bushes didn’t vote for Trump, they didn’t vote at all! “The Bushes left that section blank and only voted for Republican candidates in down ballot races” (CNN). In short: Republicans yes, Trump no. I grasp in relieve (but I have to commit that my hunger for breaking news is not stilled by this very diplomatic vote).
As I go on reading the article, I focus on the second (and actually more important) part of the headline only shown above the article (not in in the link to the article that shocked me so much): “ despite what Rush Limbaugh claimed”. Who is Limbaugh?
Limbaugh, a very popular conservative talk radio show host, claimed that George W. Bush voted for Clinton (CNN). As this information is as true as that he voted for Trump, George W. Bush had his spokeswomen deny Limbaugh’s false “accusations” and tell the public the truth.
So, to make a long story short, this article has absolutely nothing to do with Trump. (I know this does not happen very often at the moment!) Now that I understand, I feel very stupid and very manipulated. CNN managed to choose a headline that suggest something very different from the actual story and that states a scandal where there is none.
Now I know that George W. Bush “sat the race out” (CNN). One of the best decisions he has ever made.
