Inside the News Media

So, what do I think about the News Media Course?

When the course started and we learned about the assessment requirements I thought: Yeah, no problem. You will have great ideas about interesting and entertaining topics every week. Well, in fact it was not that easy for me to come up with original posts every week. Especially during the first sessions I had problems to write entertaining post because I am not that interested in the Social Media: Facebook, Twitter etc. Topic.

Luckily, we are living in times where the media is full of — let’s say — perfect material: Trump running for president, the Brexit shock and the European Union states realising that they are not that close to each other as imagined. Nevertheless, I found it quite difficult to come up not just with commenting but critical posts. But this attitude changed towards the second half of the semester: Breaking news, Journalism, Newspaper, TV news — bingo! Studying politics I am used to reading newspapers or watching the newscasts daily so it was hard for me to understand how people could simply not do it. I really liked the session about Newspapers because — let’s face it — I am a little bit nostalgic and enjoy reading my newspaper while having coffee on a Sunday morning. The Newspaper Health check was interesting and also bit challenging since one had to do more research than usually to find out something about the shareholders, financial situations etc.

After all, it was a really great course and I would definitely recommend it to my fellow students.
