A gasp of relief.. European Cup is over … no (“big”) terror attacks have happened luckily. And then two days ago, a big attack in Nice, yesterday an attempted coup in Turkey

It will not end.. And it’s getting still more cruel. Children dying on a national holiday, a president who uses his citizens as a protective shield.. around 300 people died in Nice and Turkey in the last two days.

The news are full of information about terror in Nice and in Turkey. You can actually not missed it. Still, there are people who don’t care or who shut their eyes when it comes to violent conflicts. How can you hide yourself from being informed? It’s not okay to shut your eyes, to look away, to concentrate on your life, while people are dying outside of Germany.

It’s not a fault of news media. News are everywhere to find. You can inform yourself on every platform, you even don’t have to look for it. Important issues will be shared on Facebook, don’t ignore it. I often think students would be interested in political issues (I don’t say it is a fault, when you’re not, or that I am always informed about everything what is going on, or do have additional information) but they aren’t. I know people myself who do not vote. And I thought that they had learned in school what an honour and of what importance it is to go and vote. That we have the possibility to participate in political actions, and in the people who get the power representing the opinions of the citizens. I know it is the optimum, but do not turn your back on politics, only when something goes wrong or it’s not in your opinion. That’s democracy: When many people talk about one issue, it will take its time. You want it faster: Then watch Turkey, there is one person who decides everything, there is no talk needed.

Vote! Do not hesitate! Just vote! For democracy. And don’t shut your eyes concerning sad conflicts. Care for others and be informed. That’s why we have news!
