It is on the news everywhere, next to reports on the refugee crisis and the war in Syra: The presidential campaign in the United States. There have been already many articles about the candidates and their programs while Donald Trump seems to be the main focus of the media. In most of the articles that I’ve read he is portrayed as an opportunistic, right-wing candidate who has a strong narcissistic character. Any other candidate seems to be more appropriate than him to become president. If you follow the subliminal advice of SpiegelOnline articles, Hillary Clinton would be your natural candidate of choice and if a majority of Germans think like you what could be possibly wrong with that?

Donald Trump has been criticised for being opportunistic but it is very interesting to find out how much Clinton as well has adjusted her program to a more liberal or popular view. Just like Trump she also fancies telling lies in order to convert more people to vote her. However, it seems that German media, SpiegelOnline in particular, tend to ignore that but rather publish the next article about an awkward moment with Donald Trump. Of course it seems legit to raise awareness that such an idiot is a serious candidate in the presidential campaign but at the same time the media should not only exploit the obvious. When reading articles on SpiegelOnline about Hillary Clinton it seems like she doesn’t do anything wrong and her mistakes are marginalised by the website. Taking a look at other online news portals definitely helps to sharpen the image.

Today, for example, I found a well-structured Washington Post article about Clinton’s changing program. The article itself was quite interesting but what was actually striking were the comments on the article. Many accused her of being a liar and not worthy of becoming president, a view that one is not so often confronted in Germany. I had already read about the e-mail controversy and knew that she hasn’t been the most honest person on the planet but it made me curious to find out a little bit more about Clinton. It only took two words, “Clinton” and “lies”, to find out more about that. I had already seen a funny video concerning this topic about Trump by LastWeekTonight so I tried to find something similar about Clinton. To find a video about a lying Hillary Clinton wasn’t that hard as well and among the many hits I found one particularly funny and revealing video.

Of course one should not only take such video as a reference, yet there also a couple of articles that state the same: Hillary Clinton has not only been very inconsistent about her positions it the past decade but purposely told lies to the public. I am by no means a Trump supporter and it is normal to change your mind over time but I find it poor that a frequently visited website such as SpiegelOnline presents Hillary Clinton as a far better candidate than she is.
