Employee safety is the priority for organizations today, however, many lack the technology to support their staff. “Most health and safety workers do not have the proper tools to deal with a pandemic, and have reverted to paper forms, spreadsheets, and email tasking,” shares Michael Bower, CEO and Founder of Lifeguard Solutions.

Quickly, Lifeguard Solutions sprang into action, building a brand-new, free app on the Salesforce Platform that helps businesses navigate and streamline COVID-19 operations and keep workers safe. It helps organizations combat and mitigate the effect of the COVID-19 virus. We caught up with Michael to learn more.

CEO and founder of Lifeguard Solutions Michael Bower

What is the challenge you’re seeing customers face right now?

Michael Bower: Three major functions of companies became overwhelmed when shelter-in-place hit their worksites. Legal is enacting clauses in contracts. IT resources are ensuring they have the proper networks, security, and teleconferencing to support high work-from-home numbers. Health and Safety departments are looking to quickly understand the impact of COVID-19, mitigate the risk, and assist workers who have, or may have, contracted the virus.

Tell us about your solution and how it can help.

Bower: The COVID-19 Response Kit App was built in partnership with experienced Health and Safety professionals and certified Salesforce technology consultants. It digitizes the processes that Health and Safety workers were doing manually and enables them to properly track OSHA-recordable COVID-19 cases. Specifically, teams need to be able to:

  • Track their illness
  • Ensure locations have proper PPE and testing
  • Have a return to work process
  • Control and mitigate risks
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and investigations

By making the COVID-19 Response Kit app free and able to install seamlessly in Salesforce Care, we remove the typical barriers to rapid approval and deployment — especially given the current constraints on IT and legal resources.

Leveraging the Salesforce Platform, we were able to rapidly deploy this app within two weeks. In contrast, Health and Safety providers using legacy platforms have been unable to pivot and provide users with a custom-fit application to mitigate the unique challenges of COVID-19.

Can you share more details on how organizations can combat COVID-19?

Bower: Our team breaks it down into a few core areas.

  • Risk management and control: understanding the risk, and what might need to be done to control it
  • Field level hazard assessment: determining how the risk differs by location, and how to manage it
  • Injury and illness tracking: this includes tracking, developing metrics and reporting
  • Return to work authorization: involving health care providers and the employee that might have been impacted
  • Emergency response: Set up and assign emergency response teams to your locations
  • Corrective/preventative action for the future

You can get more of these details in our COVID-19 Response Kit Guide.

Can you share what impact you’ve seen so far?

Bower: We are a brand-new app, but we are seeing global impact as existing customers, new companies, and Salesforce consulting partners leverage our product. They’re using the app to help Health and Safety teams streamline their response to mitigating this crisis.

What, in addition to the COVID-19 Response Kit app, are you doing to support your customers during this time?

Bower: We are using this time as an opportunity to go back and check in with customers. We hope to understand the challenges they are experiencing during this crisis, get input on our future roadmap, and use this slowdown as an opportunity to invest in improving our EHSQ Enterprise product.
