Two Decades, One Amazing #PartnerOhana
Today, we celebrate a major milestone. On March 8, 1999, Salesforce was born in a one-room apartment in San Francisco. Fast forward 20 years later: Salesforce surpassed $13 billion in revenue faster than any other enterprise software company in history, helping companies put the customer at the center of everything while continuously redefining what digital transformation looks like.
Our partner ecosystem is a key driver of success. Behind everything is a story of cooperation, opportunity, and a commitment to the success of our shared customers. Through 20 years of partnerships, more than 2 million Trailhead badges earned, 100,000+ Partner Community members, and 5,000+ solutions on AppExchange, it’s truly amazing what’s been accomplished.
Here are a few of my personal favorite highlights from the years (but by no means is this list exhaustive!):
Fun fact: In the early 2000s, advice from Steve Jobs inspired the AppExchange. In a CNN interview, Marc says Jobs told him, “You’ve got to build an application economy.” After brainstorming and focus group testing, Jobs’s advice became reality with the launch of AppExchange in 2006.
The World Meets Appy
Appygail, or “Appy” as she is known, was born March 30, 2017. She’s the guide to the AppExchange Ecosystem of partners and customers, plus Editor-in-Chief for The Exchange, the quarterly digital magazine (where does she find the time?). Inspired by a number of members of the Ohana including a Salesforce MVP, Appy is the ultimate connector and is always happy — er, appy to help.
The Salesforce Store is Unveiled
In 2017, the new AppExchange launched. Leyla Seka, who became the first Director of AppExchange in 2008 (now EVP of Mobile at Salesforce), said: “We had taken a look at the world’s largest and longest-running enterprise app marketplace — home to solutions that have been installed over 5 million times — and envisioned it could be better.”
Nowadays, AppExchange boasts 5,000+ solutions — including flows, Lightning components, and bolts, plus features consulting partners and developers. There have been 6.5 million installs to date, and 89% of Fortune 100 companies are using an AppExchange app. Partners of all sizes helped grow this vibrant marketplace and continue to innovate on ways for customers to extend the power of the Salesforce Platform.
Two Decades of Trailblazing Partners
We’re lucky to have a number of trailblazing partners that have been part of the Salesforce journey — some for almost two decades, like Brent Mellow, and also newer faces like Donald Bohrisch. We’re energized by those who are leading the charge with industry-focused solutions like David Schmaier and Trisha Price. And we continue to draw inspiration from partners’ different paths and journeys — through the ups and downs — to success like Ashley Allen.

As we look forward to the next 20 years and beyond, we are deeply grateful for our partner Ohana, and can’t wait to see what the future holds. Happy 20th birthday, Salesforce.
