Dear Reader,

Few issues expose the nation’s current ideological divide more starkly than climate change, and we need your support to plunge headfirst into the yawning abyss.

We don’t know what we will find there. That’s exactly why we want to send a seasoned and talented writer (you’ll hear more about her later) we admire on an extended reporting assignment to explore the unknown territory.

She will be seeking out everyday encounters with ordinary people in ordinary places; exploring the common ground of environmental concern over the changing climate; and listening for the common language of true conversation.

It’s a risky and unusual project. It’s anthropology conducted at the speed of journalism. It’s a piece of fieldwork of America on the brink. And it’s storytelling of the most important kind right now, because we hope to rediscover the hidden middle ground we now so desperately need.

Over the next four weeks we are aiming to raise $25,000 to fund this effort. It’s an important extension of our journalistic mission, and we hope you will support it and go on the road with us.

Support the Unknown Territory Project Today

Sincerely,

David Sassoon
