Who would’ve thought that technology and mindfulness could work so well together? With today’s yoga and meditation apps, it seems that we’ve made the impossible possible. You can find relaxation with the help of your smartphone.

Because it’s International Day of Yoga, and because we love using technology to our advantage, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite yoga and meditation apps. Yoga and meditation are great ways to destress after a long day. Less stress means more creativity, and that’s what our design team is all about!

Down Dog

Whether you’re new to yoga or are looking for new ways to shake up your practice, the Down Dog app lets you practice yoga without the limitations of a set class schedule. What stands out about this app is its level of customization. You can choose from 12 different areas of focus, and create a practice that’s most convenient for you. Choose the amount of time, level of difficulty, and even the voice of your guide. With new yoga routines available every time you hop on the app, it’s impossible to get bored!

Insight Timer

Thinking about getting into meditation but don’t know where to start? The Insight Timer app has the largest library of free guided meditations. So if you want to try meditation without committing to a monthly membership, Insight Timer is worth your while. Unlike most meditation apps that provide set programs from one specific instructor, Insight Timer is all about the community. You’ll find programs from different teachers that you can follow and rate, making it easy to find the best guided meditation.

Headspace

If you’re looking for a more focused approach to meditation, give Headspace a try. This app guides you through meditation in a very linear way, making it very easy to follow and stick to. Plus, its beautiful and functional interface perfectly conveys what the app is all about: relaxation. You should definitely check out its adorable, playful animations. Meditations are split up by categories like sleep, stress, and many more.

Calm

For those who like a bit more variety, Calm is the meditation app for all the different aspects of life. Along with the traditional guided meditation, the app lets you listen to relaxing music and nature sounds. There are also narrated bedtime stories designed to let your mind drift away into sleep. In addition, the Calm Body feature provides 10-minute videos that guide you through mindful movement and stretching, helping you release tension and recharge your mind.

Spotify Playlists

If you’re looking to relax and meditate without downloading a specialized app, take advantage of your Spotify account. The meditation genre on Spotify provides several playlists with music for sleep, guided meditation, and relaxing ambient sounds. Although it’s free, we do recommend that you subscribe to Spotify Premium to avoid getting interrupted by ads mid-practice.

What are some other ways you regain your focus after a day of work? We hope that you found these apps useful, and wish you a peaceful International Day of Yoga. Namaste!
