Our conversation with Sista dives into the Mamikos English Club, a captivating project designed to help Mamikos employees enhance their English-speaking skills.
Sista has been making her mark at Mamikos for 4.5 years and now holds the role of Organization & People Development Manager. She’s part of the People Development team, working alongside Tosina. In this story, we’ll uncover how the Mamikos English Club began and evolved into a nurturing space for improving English language skills.
Meeting the Soaring Demand: The Genesis of Mamikos English Club
In 2022, Mamikos introduced the Mamikos English Class program. Several employees were selected to participate in English classes for 10 sessions. The main focus of the class was to improve speaking skills, and the program involved external expert tutors. These classes were held once a year.
In the first semester of 2023, following the success of the Mamikos English Class program, we decided to continue with the same format. However, this year brought a pleasant surprise — a remarkable level of interest among employees.
To accommodate the surge in demand for English language learning, we are introduced an additional program called the Mamikos English Club for the second semester of 2023 where last year’s Mamikos English Class program participants stepped into leadership roles as Class Captain to guide the English-speaking sessions in this new club. This transformation not only met the growing interest but also marked a shift toward a more self-sustaining and community-driven approach to language learning within Mamikos.
Mamikos English Club: A Place to Practice English
Mamikos English Club is an inclusive and dynamic club specifically designed to enhance English-speaking skills among Mamikos employees. This initiative is inspired by the understanding of the importance of effective communication in today’s globalized business world. Structure and Activities of Mamikos English Club
The Mamikos English Club is divided into 4 classes, with a total of 20 participants. What’s unique about this club is that each class has Class Captains. These captains are Mamikos employees who previously took part in the Mamikos English Class. They now play a crucial role in leading English-speaking sessions and sharing their experiences to help others become more confident in using the English language.
The club still holds 5 meetings in each semester, but they’ve got a new approach. 3 meetings are led by Class Captains who guide discussions and create a supportive learning environment. 2 meetings will have experts to teach specific skills like presentation and negotiation. This way, the Mamikos English Club continues to be a great place for learning and personal growth.Creating a Positive Impact
Looking forward to the next year, the Mamikos English Club has big plans. We want to involve more employees as Class Captains, which means more people can benefit from this program.
When asked about the results and feedback from participants in the first year of the Mamikos English Class program, Sista explained that active tutors and engaging content significantly contributed to boosting the participants’ confidence in speaking English.
