We are lucky to have inspirational women working amongst and with us everyday. So in recognition of International Women’s Day, we asked our employees who their most inspirational women were. Here are some of their responses:

Florentina, Engineering Manager at N26

Sheryl Sandberg

“Her books are very inspiring for women who want to pursue a leadership career in tech. Sit at the table — the advice from her first book, as simple as it sounds, made a big difference at the beginning of my career as a leader. Also, her work in bridging the gap in tech and raising awareness about unconscious biases is inspiring.”

Christine, Web Engineer at N26

Marsha P. Johnson

“Marsha’s fight for Gay Liberation and freedom as a black trans woman has shown me courage in fighting for equal rights and justice. As an openly queer woman, I personally benefit from her work as an activist for queer rights. Her life is a reminder that women should continue fighting for justice despite societal backlash.”

Chieh, Motion Designer at N26

Jin Xing

“Jin Xing is a Chinese transgender dancer. She is really proud to be both successful a woman entrepreneur and a mother of 3 kids even though people keep denying her identity.”

Maxime, Senior CS Specialist at N26

Samantha Eugenie

“World Champion Sub-junior in powerlifting, only 17 years old and has several world records.”

Samantha’s debut into powerlifting was in 2019. She won gold at both the IPF, World Classic Powerlifting Championships and the EPF European Classic Championships.

Sarah, Engineering Manager at N26

Yara Senger

“She is a knowledgeable programmer, a reference in Java worldwide, an inspiring entrepreneur that strengthens the tech community through her mission to promote and spread knowledge and she’s a loving mother.”

Mafalda, Product Coordinator at N26

Gina Rodriguez

“Gina, is an actress, born in a low income neighborhood, she has been speaking about the importance of education, racial issues, body confidence, women empowering. She’s an inspiration because with her simple and small actions, she motivates me and many women in the world to think and act, even if a little bit, in ways that will better the world.”

Brieuc, Data Analyst at N26

Gretha Thunberg

“I admire her capacity to gather people behind her cause and to more actively fight against climate change, despite all the mockeries. She’s extremely knowledgeable about science, leads by example, and is not scared of going head-to-head with the leaders of the Western world. Such an inspiration for the new generation.”

Yoann, CS Specialist at N26

Simone de Beauvoir

“A brilliant writer and an outspoken feminist, Simone de Beauvoir penned the groundbreaking Second Sex (“Le Deuxième Sexe”, 1949), often regarded as a major work of feminist philosophy. ✊”

Tess, CS Specialist at N26

Maya Angelou

“Her incredibly prolific career spanned activism, poetry and despite facing many difficulties, she portrayed her beautiful thoughts with such eloquent words. “Prejudice is a burden that confuses the past, threatens the future and renders the present inaccessible.”

Monika, Internal Comms Lead at N26

Kathleen Hanna

“She pioneered the Riot Girl scene with two influential bands — Bikini Kill and Le Tigre -, turned an essentially misogynistic band into feminists (Beastie Boys) by falling in love with and marrying one of them, and still advocates for women’s rights today despite suffering from Lyme’s disease!”

Moriz, Web Engineer at N26

Ada Lovelace

“Wrote code before there were even computers. How rad is that?”
Ada was a woman way ahead of her time. She was the first to recognise that the analytical engine she was working on had applications beyond pure calculation, leading her to publish the first algorithm to be carried out by such a machine.

Dimitri, CS Specialist at N26

Lana and Lilly Wachowski

“Sci-fi Mistresses (Matrix !, Sense 8…), visionaries in the stories they dare to tell, by their revolutionary techniques and their longevity. They also made very strong choices of transitioning when the world was not what it was today, maybe now a little more accepting.”

Kate, Internal Comms Specialist at N26

Hillary Clinton

“Hillary Clinton is a woman who has shown so much strength and wisdom through her career. In my opinion, she stood against some hateful politics with courage, grace and patience — all of which were and remain much needed.”

Oana, CS Specialist at N26

Jane Goodall

“English primatologist and anthropologist and the world’s foremost expert on chimpanzees, Jane broke various glass doors throughout her career. After a lifetime dedicated to the study of animals, she is now dedicated to activism and is an inspiration for the next generation to take over the extremely important task of preserving endangered wildlife.”

Daniel, Senior Software Engineer at N26

Sandi Metz

“The technology environment usually isn’t the most friendly place to women and I truly believe that is our responsibility to make it better. Sandi is an amazing programmer, teacher and author. I have read her books and these were very important to improve my skills. The fact that she is an influencer on IT community makes her one of my models.”

Last but not least, we want to recognise all the women at N26, they inspire us on a daily basis by doing a great job and pushing boundaries day after day ❤️.
