How contentment can make you exceptional

People around us are always doing some awesome stuff, we see their accomplishments, embezzlement, indulgence and growth and wish we were doing all those awesome stuff. Social media streams are full of people who go on full display of what they want the world to perceive them and in the moment we are caught in this whole act of thinking about our life and start making conclusive comparison. I will have to admit, even I do that sometimes.

So what’s the outcome of this thinking process? It’s a bitter feeling that we are not good enough it’s not just a momentary feeling but a much prolonged one just waiting to aggravate with the next trigger.

The antidote is to simply be content. Contentment is a state of happiness and satisfaction. What I have come to realize is that our life is blessed with happiness, every moment is an opportunity to experience it but it comes with a choice.

Try this instead:

Stop looking for happiness in comparison: In what others are doing, in what other are having, in what others are growing. But instead focus on what you have, what you can do with what you have and enjoy the growth.

Enjoy your present: Too often our wishful thinking is about an ideal time in the future, often with a common prefix — ‘One day, I will also…’ Instead focus on now, there is so much you in the moment — Call someone whom you have been wanting to talk to, write a small poem, read those two pages you always wanted to read, take a stroll by the beach or park and enjoy the breeze, slow down and enjoy the world around you, notice your breathing pattern, notice how your thoughts wander don’t try to fight against them just observe. You will realize there is happiness all around us.

Set a higher goal and work towards it: So what brings us true sense of satisfaction? You’ll realize it comes when we give, care and share with someone who needs it the most. Those moments are precious, selfless and deeply satisfying. When you give what you have in limited resource, life gives back in abundance of what you can never get — Happiness.

Practice these anytime, no matter where you are, whom you are with, it’s something within your reach. Make your life magical.
