What Makes Us Human

The fact that you can read this text is a miracle of the human brain.

Our brains are the things that separate us from other animals.

It is the thing that makes us human.

What Is Neuroscience?

Neuroscience is the scientific study of the nervous system, encompassing the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves.

This multidisciplinary field draws upon insights from chemistry, biology, physics, computer science, and many other disciplines to tackle the mysteries of the most complex system we have ever encountered.

The Importance of Neuroscience Literacy

These tools enable researchers to map brain regions responsible for specific functions, providing a deeper understanding of conditions ranging from neurodevelopmental disorders to neurodegenerative diseases. The implications of neuroscience extend beyond the laboratory, impacting fields such as education, medicine, and psychology.

Insights obtained from studying the brain can inform therapeutic interventions for neurological disorders, enhance learning strategies, and contribute to our understanding of mental health.

This article is the first of a series, in which I will seek to provide the reader with a degree of literacy in the field of neuroscience.

I hope you’re as excited about this journey as I am!
